About the Hog Happnin'

The first Hog Happnin' was in 1992 when the Home Builders Association of Cleveland County, North Carolina, wanted to do something special for our community. What better way than a BBQ contest where we could cook, eat, smell and talk BBQ while working together for those in need.

All the funds raised at the Hog Happnin' go to charity with the majority going to children's charities. We have raised in excess of $150,000 for our charities since our beginning.

The cook-off is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS). We are also a North Carolina State Championship as well as a Kansas City Royal qualifying event. Also, our Grand Champion is placed in the Jack Daniel's Invitational pool.

The Hog Happnin' is held on the first Saturday in November each year. Make plans now to compete or attend this year. We are expecting over 50 competing teams. You could be one of them.

Teams compete in four KCBS categories which include poultry, ribs, pork and brisket. Sauce and "Anything But" barbecue contests are also held.

Also at the Hog Happnin' we have a Classic Car Show, USLMRA-sponsored lawn mower racing, arts and crafts vendors, a motorcycle show, children's rides and entertainment for young and old. And, of course, we have barbecue! So come hungry and plan to spend the entire day.
